PLOT:
Dr. Leslie Thompkins struggles to retain her humanity while tending to the sick and wounded of No Man's Land. She finds herself surrounded by monsters which are not her own and looked after by the one that is - Batman.
On this particular night she finds herself in the care of Mr. Zsasz who is currently (against her better
judgment) kept tied to a park bench outside of the facility. On the opposite end of the facility is Killer Croc, whose friend Stumpy was Mr. Zsasz's latest victim.
Leslie is able to keep Killer Croc at bay but her hold seems to be weakening by the moment.
As she responds to the screams of Mikey (the reformed Black Masker) she finds that Mr. Zsasz's thirst for blood is so great he is able to cause harm to Mike even while restrained. Outside, Billy Petit and Huntress have brought the wounded police officers to the camp but decide to hunt down Croc while they're there.
Huntress has a brief run-in with the new Batgirl before coming across Batman. When Batman notices the wounds on Mikey's wrists he flies into a blind rage and goes after the restrained Zsasz. He scolds Leslie for being so foolish that she would think that she could help such a monster but she responds by telling him that she only does these
things to keep herself from turning into the beast that Bruce has become. Batman storms off and puts Batgirl in charge of looking after Leslie.
Batgirl's attention is diverted however when Petit and his men begin opening fire on Croc outside the clinic. Croc responds in kind by attacking Petit and the two get into a vicious fist fight. Batgirl tries to get Huntress's attention but Huntress wants nothing to do with her mute replacement.
In the mean time, Leslie has untied Zsasz so that she can tend to his wounds. At first Zsasz is complimentary towards Thompkins for following her passion for pacifism but Batman was right all along and Zsasz immediately tries to kill Dr. Thompkins. Leslie is saved however when Killer Croc
(having subdued Petit) comes charging at Zsasz trying to gain revenge for his wounded friend Stumpy.
Huntress finally realizes what Batgirl was trying to say and rushes to Leslie's side. She scolds Petit for his foolish behavior and for a moment seems to
praise Dr. Leslie for stopping Zsasz's killer urges (if only for a moment) through her kindness.
Batman puts an end to Croc and Zsasz's battle by rushing at the two and stuffing Zsasz into a heavy concrete pipe.
Leslie tells Bruce that although she would have preferred to lose her life rather than be the cause of violence, she was happy to see him nonetheless. Bruce breaks down and apologizes for being so violent. Leslie reminds him of their pact. He will continue to work towards peace in the city while she
will continue to work towards peace in his heart.
