PLOT:
In a "Year One" story, set mere days after Bruce Wayne assumed his role as the Dark Knight, the erstwhile hero suffers the difficulties of juggling two lives and even attempts holding a steady girlfriend. The sacrifices it entails cut deep when stopping a crimewave in Gotham costs him a chance at love. He decided to break it off with her when a family was killed after he'd gone to see her.

PLOT:
A "Tales of the Bat-Cave" story reveals the "origin" of the cave's legendary giant penny. A small-time crook trying to make his break told his story. Batman and Robin showed up at the heist; he'd been trapped when a giant penny fell on him. As Batman and Robin stood above his dead body, the man realized he was in hell.
