It's hard to believe that Batman has lived this long. Why is it people love Batman? Many fans will say it's because he's human and without superpowers, he's more realistic and relatable. But there are several reasons why the Dark Knight has risen to such fame. This site takes you through time, reflecting on the many comic books, movies, toys, and other media that have had the Batman name.

Teens Charged with Terrorism after Joker inspired 'prank'
The Dark Knight NewsTwo Virginia teenagers were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism when they were caught leaving threatening Joker playing cards on the windshields of cars and in shopping centers in and around their small town.

The 'prank', obviously inspired by the box-office smash hit The Dark Knight, was said to have just gotten out a bit out of hand. Police say that the two never had any intentions of actually hurting anyone.

The DA believes however that the charges of being unoriginal moronic douchebags have a higher liklihood of sticking should the state decide to prosecute.

IESB: JL movie postponed again, GL movie on it's way?
DC Movie NewsSource: IESB.net

According to IESB insiders, JL may finally be canceled. While the official story is that it is only postponed because pf a possible SAG strike, various IESB insiders say that "[after] the success of The Dark Knight [...] Warner Bros. is not willing to risk [expletive deleted] off Christopher Nolan or Christian Bale and their intent would be to move forward with a third Batman film instead of introducing another Batman in a JLA film."

Also from IESB, WB has apparently gotten a script of GL and "they really dig it - and get it which is always important - and word is they are prepared to spend a pretty penny." IESBs own review of part of the script is available at their site HERE

7-year old Reviews Robin #175
Batman ComicsJust because this news section is in need of a little 'cuteness' update I thought I would post a link to this blog-post.

In it, a guy has his 7 year old son read and review the next to latest Robin issue tie-ing into Batman RIP. What's surprising is not only how concise some of his thoughts are (because I believe the father may have a hand in 'cleaning' things up a bit) but how much the random thoughts of a 7 year old mirror that of most grown-up comic book fans on the net.

Okay, so definately not on the BYTB Comic Book Boards (which you can as always visit here btw). But you know, the OTHERS. ;-)

Read below...
I wonder what happened to Batman. I know this is Robin’s book but it would have been nice to see Batman in it. Robin doesn’t know whether Batman is just missing or hurt or crazy. I don’t know how Batman could have went crazy like the Joker or something but it might be interesting if he turns into a bad guy for awhile and the police have to chase him like in the movies.

I also really liked on the last page Robin said that he’ll take Batman down if he has to. I don’t think Robin will be able to beat Batman in a fight, but it will be a great fight anyway.

Anyway, if you want you can read the whole review here. So far it looks like the kid has only posted two reviews, so this might be just a cute little internet nothing but if you get a kick out of this type of stuff you can always check back. After all, what kind of editorial deadlines do you put on your 7 year old?

Headline Writers Around the World Show Their Age...
The Dark Knight NewsIt may have been 40 years and four months (!!!) since Burt Ward last uttered his signature catchphrase on the campy 1960's ABC televeision show but its legacy clearly lives on in the minds and hearts of the world's copy editors.

The LA Times had an interesting little blurb showcasing just how unoriginal the world's newspapers were when it came to reporting on The Dark Knight's box office draw. Not exactly Batman 'news' per se, but kinda humorous. Here's some examples ...

Birmingham News (Alabama): Holy authenticity, Batman! Holy blockbuster! Batman
Redlands Daily Facts (California): Holy campout, Batman!
Times Colonist (Victoria, British Columbia): Holy human superhero, Batman!
Toronto Sun: Holy white-nose syndrome, Batman!
Toronto Star: Holy impressionist Batman!
The Vancouver Province (British Columbia): Holy IMAX scenes, Batman!

Click READ MORE for a link to the full article and more examples of this trend (including some even less sensical than those above... 'white-nose syndrome'?? WTF?)...

Joss Whedon Discusses his Rejected Pitch for Batman Begins
Batman BeginsJoss Whedon spoke with MTV News and revealed some interesting tid-bits about his pitch for what would have been the Batman re-boot movie eventually assigned to Christopher Nolan.

Apparently Whedon's version would have been more grounded with a brand new villain never before seen in the comic books.

In my version, there was actually a new [villain], it wasn’t one of the classics — which is probably why they didn’t use it,” he laughed. “It was more of a ‘Hannibal Lector’ type — he was somebody already in Arkham Asylum that Bruce went and sort of studied with. It was a whole thing — I get very emotional about it, I still love the story. Maybe I’ll get to do it as a comic one day [ed. note: HINT HINT, DC Comics... ].

But don't get your utility belts in a bunch fanboys, Whedon has nothing but praise for Nolan's version. So there's no need to go out and trash your Buffy DVDs just yet.

You can read the article here

What do you think? Interested on Whedon's take on the Dark Knight? Wonder just how different the two origin movies might have been? Plan on petitioning Whedon to release the script?! Well go over and discuss your letter writing campaign in our BYTB Batman Movie Forum

Canadian Scientist Determines Just What it Would Take to Become a REAL LIFE Batman
General NewsRecently Dr E Paul Zehr, a professor of kinesiology and neuroscience at the University of Victoria in Canada unveiled the results of his research to determine whether or not a normal human being could ever attain the level of self-control and honed physicality neccesary to become Batman.

Combing through his personal collection of comic bookz, Zehr, a life long Batman fan and martial artist theorizes that it would take a person anywhere from 15-20 years of training before you could start fighting crime yourself.. But it is possible.

Zehr admits it would be "extremely difficult" to get anywhere near Batman's level but, he says: "Given what we know about the body and the brain I do believe it is possible."

You can read the entire article HERE.

What do you think? Ready to start your own Bat-Training regimin? Come on over and discuss your results in our BYTB Batman Forums !

TDK Joker Concept Art
The Dark Knight News

Anyway, head on over to Slash Film to see more concept art samples and click here to pick up said book from the YTB Supercenter. How cool is that? You can check out some awesome art while supporting this very awesome website.

Batman Saves Something Other Than Gotham.
The Dark Knight NewsWired columnist John Scott Lewinski writes in his latest blog post how The Dark Knights massive earnings at the theaters this summer has put life back into two other DC universe movies that were on the edge of getting cancelled. The Green Lantern and The Justice League are those films and will be the ones with the weight on their sholders until Superman comes out of the phone booth and Nolan decides on a third Bat Crusade.
