PLOT:
Tom is on the phone with Beth and they discuss the tissue sample taken from Simon while he was in the morgue. The sample tissue is that of living donor. Tom tells Beth that they need to talk and the two meet up at a diner.
Meanwhile all across town Gothamites are using Mendo Soap in their daily showers. Little do they know that as they lather up, little demonic creatures are burrowing into their skin. The end result is that the user turns into a flesh craving
zombie-like creature attacking everyone and everything within reach. This causes
havoc all across Gotham city.
At the diner Beth is adjusting to the news about Simon's creation. More shocking than anything however is that Tom reveals that he had known about Simon's existence (and his creation) for some time now. He cannot tell Beth exactly how he knows. Not yet. All he can say is that Simon was created
for and has a purpose.
Rachel meets up with Simon in his church shelter. Simon tells Rachel about the book and Rachel agrees to help Simon look for the ingredients
necessary for the "far seeing" incantation. Rachel's only condition is that Simon remove his mask. Simon obliges and Rachel finds
that Simon's entire head is constantly shape-shifting to make a new face and hair. Simon tells her that the shape-shifting does not hurt but sometimes feels weird and that his moods sometimes change with each head switch. Rachel relates to Simon saying that they are both bi-polar (for obviously different reasons though).
They turn to Gus the convenience store shop-keep for help with obtaining their
ingredients. It is there that Gus tells them about the zombie mayhem going on across Gotham.
Vincent and the leader of the cult are receiving a status report on their plan. The Mendo Soap was distributed
throughout Gotham causing infection and several spectacular displays of horror across the city. Vincent worries about what might happen if one of the zombies
is captured "alive." The man giving the status report, Mr. Shannon, informs them that any tests they might run will return no results.
Their modifications are completely undetectable.
The cult leader is also interested in a Senator Moss being brought into their "sphere of influence." Mr. Shannon says that is happening as they speak. In Washington DC a bar of Mendo Soap is found in the bag of the Senator's assistant Troy.
Back in Gotham, Tom arrives at the morgue to check on one of Beth's latest patients, Carol Earnshaw. Earnshaw was a grade school teacher (and Mendo Soap patron) who went ballistic on her classroom before being taken down by the assistant principal with a fire extinguisher to the skull. Tom describes
Earnshaw's condition according to police reports (pale skin, gray spots and splotches, bloodshot eyes, nasty teeth, et) but Beth says that she saw none of that in her examination.
She opens up the storage locker and shows him Carol's corpse. The corpse has reverted to normal and doesn't look in the least big like a zombie.
