PLOT:
After being nearly knocked out of the air while skydiving by a stray colony of bats, Nightwing lands at the source of a makeshift "Nightwing-Symbol" shining in the sky above New York City. There he finds that none other than Harvey Dent has summoned him.

Carol Bermingham, a woman Harvey had very strong feelings for in the past is preparing to testify in a court case in Gotham City which could put some very big players behind bars. Obviously this puts her life in danger and Harvey wants Nightwing to save her life. Dent says that he would have asked Batman, but with the Caped Crusader's recent breakdown, he didn't seem to be available. And although it's Harvey Dent is the one asking the favor, Two-Face has made sure that Nightwing can't take them in by giving Dick the last minute location details of a group of innocent citizens about to be killed.

Nightwing rescues the civilians from drowning in sugar at the Double-O Sugar Refinery (built in 1902) before heading off to rescue the woman. He finds Carol about to get into her vehicle with a group of assassins disguised as witness protection agents. Nightwing takes out the would-be assassins and delivers her to court just in time to testify.

Even though Carol made it to her court date safely, Nightwing decides to tail her for just a little longer. His hunch turns out to be a good one when a sniper begins firing at the helicopter Carol is boarding. While the helicopter attempts to flee the scene, the sniper manages to get one bullet into the skull of the pilot. With the helicopter falling out of the sky, Dick makes a risky move and swoops in via the Glider and saves Carol.

Upon delivering Carol to a nearby rooftop, she begins to apologize for getting her blood on Nightwing's outfit. Unfortunately it isn't her blood - it's his! Nightwing collapses, bleeding heavily.
