In the batman comics in the 40's, Batman acted so lamely that it is like his parents were never murdered. i did'nt really read the story so can someone tell me?

the old Batman comics in the 1940's had a batman that was so lame and campy(see my other forum below,) that it was as if Bruce wayne's parents were not murdered......so was his parents murdered or not?

They were murdered, trust me. It's just his portrayal and the author's point of view that made him seem that way.

well...not everyone becomes a crazy psychopath when their parents die. it really isnt necessary to train for years and years and wear a grey suit to avenge your parents' death. but thats just batman's style. and as for the 40's...that was like the depression times and near world war 2; im guessing that they had to make things a little brighter and happier to make kids feel safer or something like that.
when time changes, batman changes.

when time changes, batman changes. Yes indeed. Batman brightened up a lot once he got a Boy Wonder at his side. He had to sell war bonds and play baseball to keep things fun and cheeky, while losing the awareness of his roots until the late '60s.

Pretty much all comics were like this during the '40s and '50s, with some notable exceptions such as the EC Horror line, which led to the whole crusade against comics and the creation of the self-censoring Comics Code, but that's another story altogether...
The point is, those Batman stories are just products of their time. They're not my preferred interpretation of the Dark Knight, but that makes them no less valid. There is definitely a weirdness at work in many of those stories, too, if you look just beyond the surface. In some of those stories, it's as if the original "dark" Batman was trying to break free of the brightly-lit campfest he had become trapped in. Eventually, this interpretation of Batman fell out of favor, and the "New Look" Batman was introduced in 1964. This was when the Batman costume had the yellow oval added around the Bat symbol. (As an interesting side fact, one of the reasons for this was that DC's marketing department realized they could trademark this more stylized bat image, and use it to crank out more Batman merchandise.) The campiness returned when the phenomenally popular TV show debuted, and the creative teams of the comics were instructed to emulate the show. When the show's popularity waned a couple of years later, sales were in the toilet again. This is when a new crop of creators, led by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams, returned the Dark Knight to his roots as a grim, brooding avenger of the night. So, that (much simplified) synopsis should give you an idea of how these things go in cycles, and the happy, pleasant Batman who would walk down the street in broad daylight, waving at passersby, was the kind of Batman that was needed at that time. When readers stopped responding to that portrayal, he was revamped to suit the evolving tastes of the readers. We've had less drastic revamps in the past decade, and are experiencing one right now, in fact. It's just the way things are with such long-running characters. A similar example outside of comics is James Bond.
