Batman followed one of John Cole's (the real killer) men back to their strong hold. Batman took bullet after bullet, attacking the men as though he cared nothing for their lives. He went back to the witness's home, realizing she'd been the killer. He destroyed the stone that had driven Eddie and himself mad. The woman was committed to Arkham Asylum.

Batman went to his costumer wanting information on a suit of armor that a hostage taker was wearing. The man refused Batman, saying he didn't build the suit. He couldn't help Batman because that would be crossing the line - he didn't want to work for anyone exclusively. Batman gave him visual that his daughter was one of the hostages.
