The laser Rex saw fired at the surface of the moon actually made a large crater filled with melted ice forming an underground sea. Dr. Langstrom reveals that the moon station has been in production for over a year - worked on by the zombified scientists who later return to Earth with no memory of the event. Katana, Batgirl and Metamorpho go to Amsterdam where they abduct one of the returning scientists.

When the team returns with the scientists, Batman immediately takes him to former Outsider the Looker who reads the man's mind and finds an alien prescence there. The experience however is so shocking that it causes her to faint. Batman takes Looker back home to rest. Once there, Looker tells Batman that monsters are in Gotham.

Deep in the bowels of some seedy Gotham nightclub, one young man pays his way for exclusive entrance to a basement area where he finds himself face to face with one of those monsters.
