SUMMARY:
The closing chapter in the saga of 'The Breaking of the Bat' sees Bruce Wayne return to action against the villainous Russian Troika mob. It seems however that the Troika is bent on destroying itself from the inside!
After ousting one member (the radiation poisoned Dark Rider) in favor of the KGBeast, Batman locates the Rider and learns that the group may have a baseball sized nuclear device in their possession.
Leaving the Rider for the police, Batman then confronts Colonel Vega and his vertigo
inducing powers. Although Batman survives the encounter, Vega is killed for his failure to take down the bat. Little do they know however just how close they came to taking
Batman out! After fighting with Vega Batman is still under the effects of Vega's powers and nearly dies after missing his line throw. Robin saves him but the experience convinces Bruce to take some time off.
The next day at Wayne Enterprises the Troika shows up looking for protection money. As instructed by Bruce,
Lucius refuses to give in and KGBeast threatens to blow up a Wayne owned chemical plant. Hearing this, Robin heads to the plant where he finds
Sgt. Bullock and newcomer Mackenzie Bock under fire. While he cannot defeat the Beast, Robin is able to rip out his cybernetic implant. In a rage, KGBeast blindly tosses the nuclear device up into the air. Fortunately Batman is there to catch it and save the day.
Back at the Bat-Cave, Batman commends Robin for saving Bullock's life. Although he's in a coma he's expected to recover and he owes that all to Tim. Also, Batman begins explaining the added measures he has now built into his costume in hopes that what happened with Bane will never happen again.
Throughout this entire experience it has become abundantly clear just how much Bruce Wayne depends on Alfred. Unfortunately for Bruce, Alfred had resigned from his post
(Knightquest: The Search). A short time later this
problem would be remedied when Nightwing goes to England and retrieves Alfred.
