Zipline Batman
Batman: Mattel, 2003. SKU# B4979

Zipline Batman marked Mattel?s beginning of production on the Batman action figure franchise that Hasbro lost just the year before. Zipline Batman was originally released in the direct market (comic book stores) along with Battle Board Robin and Quick Fire The Joker prior to making their debut a couple of months later in the regular mass market line.

Zipline Batman is the base figure sculpted by The Four Horsemen and is the base figure for all of the many Batman variants that have followed. Zipline Batman has a ?Retro Traditional? Gray and Black look to him and is very similar to the Jim Lee interpretation of Batman that appears in the HUSH story line in DC Comics.

SPECS:

The figure stands 6.5 inches tall (to the ear tips) and has 12 points of articulation (head, shoulders, gloves, waist, hips, and knees) and a cloth cape. It comes with a Zipline and a Batarang Launcher that fires a projectile that snaps on his arm.

PROS:

A dead on classic Comic Book look by The Four Horsemen. Ball Joints in the shoulders are a welcome addition over the previous Batman figures and add new range of motion and poseability over previous Batman figures.

CONS:

My only gripes are that it could have had articulation at the elbows and a little bit larger wrap around cape as well. It looks as if this will be addressed in the next generation of figures as Mattel has shown a super articulated Batman figure at the 2004 San Diego Comic Con and Wizard World conventions.

OVERALL:

This is one of the best Batman figures ever released. Great playability and a really good value. In addition to being released as a single in the first three waves of figures, the figure is available as a part of two different Two Packs. The Direct Market Batman & Superman Two Pack (B8742) without any accessories and a Batman & Robin Two Pack (C7034) with Battle Board Robin with accessories.

This figure is a must have for any Batman or action figure collector.

its cool how they made the cape plastic at the top to give it that stylized look and then fabric on the way down for motion

I still enjoy messing around with different poses. No doubt, this one will go down as a classic.

This is a classic figure. I only wish the whole Comic Style Figures would come back to the U.S. market.

Zipline Batman
Batman: Mattel, 2004. Wave 5 Asst: B4975, SKU# C3069

This is a rare look at the new version of Zipline Batman. The figure remained unchanged, but a new Zipline and Disc Launcher replaced the previous versions. This version like the other figures in Waves 4, 5 and 6 was available only overseas.

Here?s a look at the Original.

Zipline Batman in 2003 marked Mattel?s beginning of production on the Batman action figure franchise that Hasbro lost just the year before. Nearly 3 years later he still stands as one of the best Batman figures released to date.

Zipline Batman was originally released in the direct market (comic book stores) along with Battle Board Robin and Quick Fire The Joker prior to making their debut a couple of months later in the regular mass market line. In addition to being released as a single in the first three waves of figures, the figure is available as a part of three different Two Packs.

Batman & Superman Two Pack SKU# B8742 without any accessories which was a Direct Market Exclusive.

Batman & Robin Two Pack SKU# C7034 with Battle Board Robin with accessories.

Batmand vs. Killer Croc Two Pack SKU# C7553, another Direct Market set which features ?Battle Damaged? versions of Zipline Batman and Killer Croc

Also the Zipline Batman body with new bent arms, a new head and cape and cowl were used for all three versions of the 2004 SDCC Unmasking Batman figures.

I agree, but most collectors still consider Zipline Batman the standard by which to judge Batman figures by.

I'm one of those. For me, Zipline bats is the best Batman figure ever released...the only improvement I'd make is to replace the cloth cape with a vinyl/plasic one.

I have yet to see a non-robotic figure where extra articulation doesn't hurt the sculpt, and since these are typically standing on my desk or shelves (and not being moved around all that much) I'd rather have a good-looking design than a ton of articulation.

I got the 2 pack with Robin, and I still think it's 1 of the best Batman figures ever released, even with all the extra articulated Batman figures out now or in the near future in the DCSH line(Though I would say Wave 3's is probably the closest). A fair amount of artuclation, a felt cape(Fun for when you're playing with it, especially when you're doing those dramaic jumps, or when he's using the Zipline. I mean, if you play with your toys of coursebig grin. But even if you don't, it still looks good on him), and a good scuplt. The only thing I really had a problem with it and still do is that it should of had at least basic elbow artuclation.
