Batmobile
The Batman EXP Series 1: Mattel, 2005 SKU# J1963

The new Batmobile from the TV series The Batman for the new The Batman EXP (Extreme Power) figures was recently released along with the first waves of figures just before Christmas 2005. It is just slightly larger than the previous Batmobile for The Batman released in 2004. It borrows design cues from both original and ?Batwave? versions of the Batmobile as well as a bit from TNBA version.

This Batmobile is the ?Muscle Car Batmobile? and is gloss black with a large chrome and translucent blue ?engine? protruding from the hood. Red lights illuminate each of the four translucent blue sections, which are the same size and shape as the ?Power Keys? included with each of The Batman EXP Batman figures, by either pressing the yellow ?Try Me? button on the hood or switching it to activate using the rear wheels by the rolling it. The lights have five different flashing sequences and the sound effects include a turbine revving up and tires screeching doing a burnout. The rear wheels also have a yellow light that flashes in the center.

It has blue accent stripes on the rear fenders and roof and silver and blue ?intake/exhaust? pieces similar to previous Batmobiles that are on the lower sides with a triangular shaped ?jet exhaust? in the rear. It comes with a yellow disc that fires from a slot in the front by pressing a button just before the ?engine?.

This Batmobile is a closed cabin with a single seat and a roof that flips backward to put The Batman in. The inside is bright yellow and there were no decals of instruments to put inside. I found this a bit odd because many previous Batmobiles have a sticker sheet of instruments and gauges to use.

SPECS:

13? Long, 5 5/8? Wide, 3? Tall. Electronic sounds and lights, one firing disc.

PROS:

It has decent play value and most Batman figures should fit nicely in the driver compartment. The buttons are easy to use and the car is put together very well. The tail fins, jet exhaust and lower front bumper/fenders are all soft rubber. While the rest of the Batmobile is hard plastic there are no sharp hard pieces to hurt kids on it.

CONS:

None really, it?s a step up from the previous version but that ?gun slit? that Batman has to ?see? though is the smallest on any Batmobile, assuming he could see past the engine.

OVERALL:

Nice to see that The Batman TV show will have a Batmobile that evolves over time. Naturally Batman collectors will want one, but I think other more casual collectors may get one too, especially when they go on sale.

Very nice.. it is a really good Batmobile. How about a compare shot between the three TB Batmobiles? Shoot.. maybe even one of all the Batmobiles?

Or at least the one from TNBA?

But anyway.. really nice!

Nice review, thanks! The TNBA influence works really well here. Is it just the angle of the photo, or is one of the fins warped? The rear view looks like the left fin is sticking out to the side more than the right fin.

It's definitely a sturdy-looking toy, but I don't like the look of it, especially that engine. Looks like it's made out of lego.

The Tail Fins are soft plastic, so yeah one does lean a little more than the other.

Ask and you shall recieve...

The Batman Batmobiles

Here?s a look at the three of The Batman Batmobiles that Mattel has released so far. There is a fourth one, the Triple Mission Batmobile, but I have not gotten around to taking it out of the box to review just yet.

The original Batmobile is dark charcoal black with argent silver accents. Translucent blue tail fins and the quarter panels light up when either of the two buttons on top of the car are pressed. The car is a single seat model with an open roof. The side panels pop open to reveal rocket launchers on each side, which have independent buttons to fire the missiles.

The second Batmobile was released with Batwave, a technology that allows the Batlink Communicator attached to the top of the Batmobile to interact with the The Batman TV show. This new design for the Batmobile, paid homage to Batmobiles before it with various design cues throughout the vehicle. The Batmobile is painted in black metal flake, with blue trim and blue lights that light up along the sides.

This latest Batmobile is based on a new design seen in the TV show and is actually the fourth Batmobile Mattel released for The Batman. It?s more of a ?Muscle Car Batmobile? in gloss black with a large chrome ?engine? protruding from the hood. Not many Batmobile show an "engine" sticking out of the hood like that. It has nice mix of design cues from other Batmobiles as well most notably TNBA version.

Will the rubber pieces eventually dry rot or fall apart in time.:bigeek::bigeek::bigeek::bigeek:

I don't have this one, but I doubt it. The dry rotting is something that has been more prevelant in older toys. Since the 70's and 80's they have gotten better with soft plastic so that it will last. Better living through chemistry.

I really just can't bring myself to like this batmobile. I am ususlly one to buy them up, but this one just looks ugly. The design on the show looks cool, but sometime the translation to plastic just doesn't come off right. Oh well, more for you guys.

Hey FlaBat, you forgot to mention that there is a variant packaging verision of this Batmoible. Some versions come package with a DVD of sorts inserted to the box(Usually infront of the toy on the right side. The DVD is in a white DVD envolope). Of course, the DVD is nothing to get really excited about, since I hear that it just contains some 22 minutes of ramdom Batmobile footage from The Batman cartoon series, but still something I think that should of been mentioned. Personally, I think the DVD should of contained The Batman episode that debuted the EXP Batmobile into the show, but that's just me.
