I didn't see a thread on this, which kinda surprised me! If I missed it, I apologize.

For those that may or may not know, Mattel gave out 100 limited edition Justice League Unlimited Hal Jordan Green Lanterns. This character was VERY desired by the collecting community. They gave them to employees and a few of us webmasters that have worked hard in promoting the toyline. The package is signed by Bruce Timm, and the mold was destroyed.

I thought I had seen a thread about that on here, but I didn't see one when I looked just now. When I saw the title of this thread, I thought for a moment that maybe Mattel had caved to fan pressure, and decided to release the figure as an exlucsive or something. sad But no dice. Eh, at least a Jordan GL would be easy to customize. I'd rather have a Kyle Rayner GL figure, myself.

Never say never.

but honestly, its a licensing issue with DC. They're very picky about who you can make and in what "version"....Mattel wasn't allowed to release a JLU Hal anyway..so the fans really didn't miss out on anything

I don't think we covered this because it was Green Lantern and we mostly stick to Batman. I saw this either online or in the trades and was not really impressed.

What I wonder is why Playmates could make Star Trek figures with all sorts of articulation (head, shoulders, biceps, elbows, thighs, knees) in a small figure and Mattel can't or wont.

Yeah, they're notoriously picky with the specifics of their licensing agreements. Not suprising if they prohibited the manufacturing of a wide-release Jordan figure.

That's just Mattel's way. Less articulation means fewer separate pieces to mold, less time required for factory workers to assemble each figure, all of which culminates in a cheaper product and higher profit. Not that Mattel is alone in wanting to maximize their profits, but they frequently sacrifice articulation as one way of doing so. They did away with the added articulation in the Justice League line a year or so ago, around the time it became JLU-focused. Mattel claimed it was due to negative reaction to the added articulation, but I never saw anything but positive comments about it. I'm quite surprised that the Dc Heroes line is, for the most part, highly articulated. Mattel as a whole is stubborn and set in their ways, but I guess they're learning. Smile

Hmmm..I figured you guys covered JLU here too.

Its really one of those preference things..I actually prefer less articulation...it really takes away from the sculpt, which is what I'm interested in..I want cheap, mini-statues. If i were playing with them....or if I were still a child I might be interested in more articulation...but for my needs, what Mattel does is great in this case. I know a lot of fans are divided on that issue...I think I'm probably in the minority, lol

Yeah, I think I'd have to agree. Articulation takes away from the sculpt and it can also make the figure more rickety, fragile and loose over time.

I like that Hal Jordan figure! Man, do I wish it were mine...

Yeah, I considered posting this, and just never did. Sure is a topic of concern with fans. I thought it was funny hearing people say this was a big "Screw you" to collectors. I'm not sure it was intentionally offensive though. I think it was more out of plain stupidity than anything. Does kinda me off personally.
