Funny question. Well, since he's a big city guy I doubt I'd ever see much of him outside of the newspaper. It'd be really cool knowing there's a guy out there to terrify all the creeps 'n gangs. Might be a little frightening if I lived around the area though, depending on what exactly he did and how he looked.

Depends, I mean if you think about it, in the comics/movies/sows etc the common people get all their information about Batman through the media, and the media typically pegs him as this kinda bad kinda good guy who runs about at night.
I suppose if he's around for a while I'd be comfortable with the idea of a vigilante, but it would probably freak me out a little knowing that we'd be in need of such a vigilante. (If there was a real live Joker out there....shudder)

Yeah, I think if I really saw him personally, I'd be scared.

it depends because comics dont work like the real world. i would be able to tell its a guy in a bat suit and not a giant bat. if it were like a batman begins suit or a batman returns suit or any suit like the moves theeeeeeen i wouldnt be THAT scared and if it was like the costume in the short movie "Dead End" id laugh right at his face.

If you're a petty criminal up to no good and suddenly, out of nowhere, some huge maniac in an armored demon suit drops down on you, yelling at you with a voice that sounds like it comes straight from the depths of hell itself, chances are you'll be afraid. Hell, you'll probably ruin your pants. The costume as seen in the comics works in print, but needs to be adapted to look impressive and workable in three dimensions. Hence the altered designs used in the films, and I'm sure it would be altered for practicality and maximum effectiveness if it were done in the real world.

You're a genius.
The fact is, Batman doesn't just walk up to crooks and tell them nicely to stop what they're doing. He leaps down from ledges or buildings and grabs them without warning.
Also, another thing I hate about that cursed TV show is that it pretty much saps the idea of Batman working in real life. Here's what would happen:
Falcone: What the hell are you?
Batman: (In a real, deep, scary, menacing voice) I'm Batman!
Falcone: You mean that fat idiot from the TV show? Na na na na na na na Batman! Ha ha! Don't make me laugh!
You never hear people having this argument about Daredevil.

i see what you mean but the question was would YOU as in you personally. The only reason i can think of to explain the thugs not seeing that it just a suit is that he just swoops down kicks you in the face punches your friend and chucks a batarang at another friends face and hes gone.....couldnt make out alot could ya? but if the criminals were given some time to look at him i dont think theyd be afraid of him in the sense that hes a monster.

I wouldn't be afraid of the mainstream Batman with the blue-and-grey suit. I'd be afraid of the Batman Begins version, because he looks scary. The only problem is you can obviously tell he's a man, because you can see his mouth and yellow belt.
If I became Batman, I'd want criminals to think I was a real monster. My suit would be all black, cloth completely covering the mouth like Spider-Man, and red eyes, and no Bat symbol on the chest. Why would a giant monster have a picture of a bat on him? I'd also get some sort of voice-changer built into the mask.

K7....i think you need to go take a chill pill...but anyway if a guy swooped off a ledge and cuaght me...he wouldnt have to be dressed as a bat to scare me guys....im being caught buy a guy swooping off a ledge...thats weird/scary/stalkerish. but if i was given time to look at batman then he came at me....id be scared cuz this guys is about to break me.....but i wouldnt think hes a monster as all criminals do. all in all i wouldnt be scared of batman cuz hes a monster but rather cuz hes gonna hand me my butt which goes for any crook so only if batman looked like the the demon in batman begins when crane inhales the fear gas....then i dont think id fear him THAT much.

or the bat. or maybe have no name.
instead of making his own name, he shudda let other ppl give him a name. ppl gave superman his name in STAS and ppl gave spiderman his name in the movie.

true. i think though that the introduction of all the explosive batarangs, planes, and batmobiles has lowered his chances of being a monster. i mean, what kind of monster rides in a sweet ried like the batmobile? lol

Batman wears a costume so word will spread about him through the criminal grapevine about how he is a terrible monster. If he was dressed as an ordinary man, people wouldn't be as scared when they're trying to take him down (like in Batman Begins).

Yeah, there gets to be a point where he's not much of an urban myth. But that doesn't necessarily destroy his dark, fearful presence.
I do kinda think the concept of driving the Batmobile is odd. Doesn't he have to stop at stop lights and signs just like civilian travelers? Good thing he has tinted windows. That'd be akward sitting there at a stop light in the Batmobile while a golden retriever barks at you from the truck in the opposite lane.

lol true i mean how many "secret" paths can there really be to a bank or something? eventually you would see batman stopping at a red light as hes not about to run the old lady over thats crossing the street. My problem with the batmobile is that how many dark monsters have you seen riding in souped up cars? obviously to get the car he had to TALK to someone and make arrangements (batman begins) or make it himself.....and how would a monster go around buying parts for his car? the car takes away the sense of mystique that batman is suppossed to possess.....but then again in the comics batman is out really late when there arent really that many people driving around but still when he has to get somewhere fast and the crooks see him jump out of a car they are like......ummm.....:|

well...it depends...
if batman just steps out of the car and starts walking towards them, then theyre gnna just shoot him. which i didnt understand in batman returns because thats all he did...walk around town with ppl watching him.
but if batman jumps out and tackles a crook...then the other crooks will probably run for it and be scared like cwazy!!! lol.
