The Bratz have gotten the beat down from Barbie!

After a four year legal battle, Mattel has won. Check it out:

Well, . . .
I did manage to get a Bratz Mini (not-branded as a Mini) for about a buck at the local Hospice thrift story. I popped off the rear tag and it hold the B:TAS Joker GREAT! Now, The Joker has got himself some cool wheels!
The second-style "The Batman" Batmobile gets to chase a charcoal gray Mini!

Sum Nox!

It was not clear if the former Mattel employee who designed Bratz had pitched to idea to Mattel and they said no. Only that he was a former employee and had that idea and that Mattel somehow owned that idea because he worked for them. If the Bratz concept was never pitched to Mattel and they never developed it, I don’t see how they can claim the idea belongs to them. Sure maybe the employee signed something about ideas he brought up belonged to the company, but that was not clear in the story.

The bottom line is that Barbie got beat by Bratz and they had to sue to shut them down. Rather than improve Barbie, which has been stale for many years. They shut down Bratz because they were what the consumer wanted. This sends a bad message and sets a bad precedent. Who’s next on Mattel’s hit list?

The reality is all that does is open it up for others to make Bratz clones to compete against Barbie because they know the style sells better. Mattel may have won the battle, but it lost the war. Barbie is too big a target not to have others out to knock her off her throne.
