Everything comes to an end. I don't want to think about it but when do you think Batman will just fade away from intrest of the comics and the media. When will people forget about Batman? You could think it is imposible but when do you think the Dark Knight won't exist?

I don't think he will ever fade away. He has come close to fading in the past but they always find a way to revitalize him and make him relevant. That is one of the things that make him who he is, he is always reinvented to better mirror our society. The only way he will fade away is if the world ends. |

A world without Batman? Not going to happen. Batman is just one of those enduring characters and he will be around forever.

As a student of history, I KNOW he will fade eventually from the main consciousness. However, I think that it will be a long time from now, unless our civilization falls sooner than I expect.
I do wonder how long it will be that the character remains in the forefront of public consciousness . . .
The Shadow has faded, as has the Green Hornet. Also, Felix the Cat is largely heading into obscurity. HECK, even the Lone Ranger is fading away. So, it isn't impossible that the character couldn't be mostly forgotten in 50 years time. However, as long as the character remains malleable and adapts to the day, it should remain viable. As soon as it becomes "fixed," it begins to die and will die as times change unless it is "re-envisioned" by some director, writer, illustrator, or other storyteller in a way that remakes him relevant to the new era.
It has been done numerous times in the last 70 years. He changed just before WW2, in the 1950s, in the mid 1960s, then radically changed in the late 1960-70s (ONeil's Batman), again in the 1980s (ex-> Frank Miller), and you know the rest.
Only as the character is able to adapt to new eras is it able to remain viable and alive. Many in the last 100-150 years have not.

I sure hope he exsists for future generations. Batman is everywhere in my life.

Please, we all know the bat will never go away. If he did what would the joker do? Now there lies our real problem. |
