Before the idea of a "Batmobile" even existed, way back in Detective #27, the Bat-Man was a gun-toting vigilante who drove a no-frills red coupe:

Made from Revell's '37 Ford with a few optional extras...

Rather than the stock flathead, this Bat-Car is powered by twin radial engines! You can see more photos and read the full writeup here.

Wicked!
I've got a Corgi Red Batmobile (if you can call it that) on my desktop at work - everyone is always quite surprised when they find out what it is! Although in fairness, I remember when I got the first DC archive edition - I was a little surprised myself! The Batmobile as we know it (in all it's various models and forms) is such a part of the whole Batman make-up, you're not expecting something that seems such a departure! When in actual fact it's the origin!
Great stuff.
& if anyone is reading this and hasn't seen Spencer's Batmobile site - it's brilliant >> go check it out! |

Another fine custom...
The engine design is a great idea
for this red Bat...
Very clean and pro-built...
Two Batwings up on this one...

Thanks, guys! Not necessarily the next project, but I have plans for doing that Corgi car in 1/24 as well. I have a donor body picked out, but I think everything else will have to be scratchbuilt.
Yeah, the whole "Pre Batmobile" era is something I still have to add to the site. Soon, I promise.

Nicely done! And it's cool that you went as far as adding the radial engines. Definitely looking forward to the Pre Batmobile era section of your site. I've come across all sorts of great info on there that I never knew prior.

Thanks! The radials were an idea from a while back, I thought they would be cool in a pre-WWII car. I just needed a suitable donor car.
The Pre-Batmobile section will be up soon, but before that I have another new section on the horizon. Hopefully to be revealed this weekend.
