I guess Superman's was pretty popular...

BATMAN THROUGH THE AGES BOXED SET

A must-have set featuring four DC DIRECT updated and revised Batman action figures! Also included are bases for each figure as well as a 48-page original collection of classic Batman comics stories!

Advance-solicited; on sale March 28, 2007

This set ? packaged in a four-color window box ? includes:

- FIRST APPEARANCE BATMAN ACTION FIGURE
- GOLDEN AGE BATMAN ACTION FIGURE
- SUPER FRIENDS BATMAN ACTION FIGURE
- CLASSIC BATMAN (DESIGNED BY ALEX ROSS) ACTION FIGURE

Judging by the Superman set, this one looks like it had less effort...

The 1st Appearance figure not only has long, blue gloves replacing the short, purple ones, but also a plastic cape in place of the cloth & wire version. I'm sorry, but the first edition was a lot better. And you can only have one look in your very First Appearance, which in this case, didn't include blue friggin' gloves.

The Golden Age figure is nice with that new head sculpt. I was hoping they would release a Golden Age figure that featured the look he had around the debut of Robin. But for any Batman art buff, the body just doesn't work. That thick Utility Belt just screams Infantino.

The Super Friends re-release is all right. I don't see any real changes here, but they really should have taken this oppourtunity to darkened the blue as it is in the cartoon.

The Alex Ross "Justice" Batman just isn't that great with the bright yellow chest oval. I'm okay with this re-release except for the fact that his bright oval is so contrary to the darker gold Utility Belt.

This set is neat, but I have the same problems with the repaints that you do. That oval bat symbol does not go well with the Ross Batman at all. It looks like it was photoshopped on there, so it may look better in the store. I think that they did darken the Super Friends one a bit though. It never dawned on me how close it looks to the Perez Batman that was solicited a few months back.

While I have the originals of all of those, I?m surprised that they did not use the Hush Batman again.

They already did that with the original release of First Appearance Batman, so now they feel compelled to change it up a bit. But it doesn't make since to still call him First Appearance Batman because that's not how he looked in the first appearance. Ho hum...

I wanna say the MSRP is somewhere around $50-60. You may note in my initial post that they won't be available 'till March 28, 2007. Sure feels like that was a while ago when I first posted about 'em...

I'm not getting the set mainly because I own most of those in their original, accurately painted form. While they all look pretty nice, some of the figures don't make much sense in their new paint jobs (namely, 1st Appearance Batman). But buying them individually could be pricey, so this set may be worth getting for those needing the DCD Batman essentials and can do a good job of repainting/customizing them to have their accurate looks.
