PLOT:
While on a mission in Gotham City to track down more of his biological father General Zod's sleeper agents, Christopher Kent (as the Nightwing persona) and his beloved Flamebird (Thara Ak-Var) are ambushed by Penguin and the Kryptonite Man. Chris is knocked
unconscious and when he comes to,
Flamebird is gone. He believes he knows where she's been taken but unfortunately the Penguin has coated the building in some kind of liquid lead chaff which interferes with his X-Ray vision. And for good reason. It seems that ever since the
Kryptonian people were made personas non grata on Earth, they've become somewhat of a rarity in the eyes of "collectors." Inside the renovated Iceberg Lounge, Penguin is using Kryptonite Man to hold Thara hostage so that he can hold an auction to sell her off to the highest bidder!
Looking for help, Chris turns to Red Robin (Tim Wayne). After Bruce Wayne was supposedly killed by Darkseid, Tim has been the sole keeper of the torch, believing Bruce to still be alive out there...
somewhere. When Chris finds him he's trailing the
Walewein Motorcycle Gang down the streets of Amsterdam. It seems the gang, old foes of Hawkman, have recently stolen a very important letter from the Rijksmuseum and Tim intends on getting it back.
At first when he receives the surprise Tactile Telekinesis help he thinks that his old friend Conner Kent has arrived to help, but instead it's Nightwing. Tim knows the old Nightwing, but he doesn't believe he's ever met
this new stranger. Removing his mask, Chris re-introduces himself and explains his situation. At first, Tim is hesitant to join in. After all, he has a mission of his own to attend to. But as Chris goes on to explain the legend of
Nightwing and Flamebird and how according to legend, the fate of the world rests on their love remaining intact,
he changes his mind and decides to help.
He successfully breaks into the building and disrupts the auction, but he's no match for the immense power of the
Kryptonite Man! Seconds before the former Dr. Abernathy can fry him with a blast of green energy, Nightwing appears carrying the tank of
liquefied lead used to coat the Lounge's walls. Using his heat vision, he seals Abernathy inside a lead casing muting his powers while Tim
delivers a much deserved punch to Penguin's glass jaw.
With Flamebird rescued, Nightwing returns Red Robin to Amsterdam where Tim is finally able to get the letter he was after. The ancient
correspondence was first sent from Gotham City
to Amsterdam in October of 1809 and in acquiring it he is now one step closer to completing the puzzle of Bruce Wayne's death. But are all these events just pieces of a much sinister puzzle going right in front of them? Kryptonite Man wakes up and finds himself in a
state of the art laboratory. A small 'Toyboy' holds a scalpel above him. The tiny doll cries out to be allowed to operate on the restrained man of Kryptonite. But Toyman has other plans....
