ISSUE SUMMARY: The meteor that was destroyed by the sacrifice of Captain Atom is having after-effects as chunks of Kryptonite rain down on the Earth. Many of Earth's heroes co-operate in an effort to remove all of the dangerous rock while Superman is stuck on monitor duty. After almost two weeks of this, Batman makes a discovery in Gotham harbour. He finds an alien vessel under the waters, and in this vessel is a humanoid girl, a girl with immense power who is vulnerable to the Kryptonite that Batman has collected. He brings her, unconscious, to the Batcave for study, and when she comes to, she is able to converse with Superman, in the Kryptonian language. Superman tells Batman that the girl is named Kara Zor-El, and she's his cousin...
