Tim Drake, still relishing his life as a normal young man rather than a super-hero, finds himself caught up in Gotham's gang war when his friend Darla Aquista, daughter of a mafia boss, is pursued by members of the Odessa Mob and Scarface's gang. His friends are amazed by how much he is able to help them, as across the city, mafia member's families are killed in cold blood. Tim manages to get Darla and other friends safely inside the school, but evidently some gunmen have made it in as well, as Darla is shot through the chest, and suddenly Tim's world is reduced to the single action of keeping her alive.
