PLOT:
This all started ironically enough, by chance. The sudden occurrence of venom related deaths in South America certainly caught the attention of the League of
Assassins. With no bite marks to be found, the League was certain that someone - perhaps a rogue
Assassin was using the poison of the Wandering Spider to make their hits. But with no clear motive, no method and no logic behind the targets, the supposed assassin became impossible to track. And in time, the League dropped their investigation completely.
And so Vitoria (who would come to be known as 'The Wanderer') continued on. She moved from country to country, her thirst for the kill unquenchable as ever. Men, women, tourists, locals, it didn't matter. It was only a matter of time really before she would stumble upon and kill someone whom somebody else wanted dead. She didn't even know the man's name. Let alone that there was a cool million dollar bounty on his head. And as it would turn out, the agency responsible for collecting that hit was none other than the League themselves. It would be the first time the League would come into contact with the Wanderer. And the assassin put in charge of that man's murder was never heard from again.
Yes, death is a funny thing. And having recently taken a trip back to Gotham City and do battle with the re-animated corpse of his parents, Tim Wayne is far too familiar with just how 'funny' death is. That much is clear. But what isn't so clear is why exactly he neglected to tell Dick Grayson about his recent discovery in Iraq. Perhaps life is a funny thing too.
So funny in fact that Tim Wayne now finds himself sitting at the controls of the entire League of
Assassins. From a computer deep inside the League's Cradle, Tim begins pouring over information. Everything is at his fingertips (everything that is, except the location of Ra's al Ghul himself). It's astounding just how deep the League goes and just how much it operates like any other business. And despite the fact that the White Ghost and the Expediter are none too pleased about his access, there's nothing they can do about it. It is the orders of the Demons Head himself. Ra's al Ghul wants these killers found and he expects Tim to do it.
At first it seems as though this is an inside job. Somebody has to be leaking information about the League's activity to the Spiders. Tim initially suspects the Expediter himself until he finds out that Ra's has a bit of an insurance policy in place. A group of armed ninjas sits watching over the Expediter's home, ready to go in and kill his entire family should he betray the League. Something Tim finds deeply disturbing.
Nevertheless, somehow the Council of Spiders manages to be at every League hit. So Tim decides to lure the Spiders out by arranging for three 'hits' on the one condition that no one is to die. Unfortunately death is not something Tim Wayne has any control over.
The 'hits' are a bust. The Council members overpower and kill the League's
assassins at every turn. Tim and Pru are the only two to survive. They manage to capture the Council member, an assassin named 'Recluse' but the killer reveals that this whole time, Tim has been playing into their hands!
While the League was attempting to draw out the Spiders, the Spiders have slipped into the Cradle! It's already too late for the Expediter, but can Tim get back in time to save Tam?
And meanwhile, back in Gotham City, the intrepid reporter Vicki Vale is working on a major hunch. Ever since the recent gang war, Wayne Industries has been pumping money into Gotham like never before. Vicki decides she'd like to have a sit down with Bruce Wayne himself to find out why. It catches her completely by surprise however when Bruce himself (aka Tommy Elliott) obliges!
