PLOT:
Starro the Conqueror, the humanoid warlord leader of a race of mind-controlling starfish currently rules over nine galaxies. His captured armies fill countless warships and he now stands poised to take over the entire Milky Way. But you wouldn't know it judging by the smug grin stretching across the face of Vril Dox, son of Braniac and leader of the justice-for-profit L.E.G.I.O.N. (Licensed Extra-Governmental Interstellar Operatives Network). Even though Starro's fleet has taken over Maltus - the L.E.G.I.O.N. headquarters and turned it into their own command central, Braniac and and the rest of his crew remain content at their base on Voorl alongside the other Starro Refugees. Using his 12th Level Intelligence, Brainiac-2 has erected the biggest force field ever in order to successfully box Starro into this corner of the Sector. Currently his team is busy gathering components to construct a weapon capable of breaking Starro's power forever.
Having just returned from their battles on New Rann, Adam Strange and Captain Comet
regale Vril with tales of the Guardians' abysmal failure and resulting War of Light raging across the galaxies. But it hardly concerns Vril. After all he always through the Guardians were foolish to entrust so much power in their Green Lantern Corps. He himself recently replaced all of his L.E.G.I.O.N.
peacekeepers with androids. So it's no understatement to say that Vril Dox is not a people person.
But just as things were truly looking up - Vril receives some troubling news. His son, Lyrl Dox has gone missing alongside members Strata, Garv and their young child Rocky.
Immediately, Vril drops what he is doing and sends his finest scout Wildstar to go and search for them. When they return the come baring even worse news.
While on their journeys Lyrl and the others encountered The High Vanguard, Starro's top super-soldiers. In an attempt to save the lives of Strata and her family, Lyrl agreed to return with the Vanguard to Maltus and meet with Starro himself.
Upon hearing this, Vril immediately gathers his crew to return to the ship and prepare for a jump into hyper-space. As much as he may not have wanted to, he'll now have to relocate to Earth and join forces with the humans and make his last stand against Starro there.
You see, even though things have been fairly copacetic as of late, Vril Drox's personal life has not always been so peaceful. After being forcibly mated with former-L.E.G.I.O.N teammate Stealth, Vril witnessed the birth of his son Lyrl. However
Lyrl was gifted at birth with the same 12th Level Intelligence as his father and as such used it to depose Vril shortly after learning to walk and talk. This of course
necessitated a chemical labotomization of Lyrl, reducing his metal capacity to that of a normal boy his age in order for him to grow and develop the values and
judgment necessary to wield such an intellect. Vril has no doubt that once Starro gets his hands on the boy, he will reverse the labotomization and Lyrl will make short work of undoing his father's work, deconstructing the force field that keeps Starro at bay.
So needless to say, Vril wants to high-tail it out of Voorl as soon as possible. But as his ship is taking off and preparing for the jump to hyper-drive, not only does the High Vanguard make their move, but Lyrl's mother Stealth shows up! This is only shocking of course because just three days ago, a L.E.G.I.O.N. robot strike force tracked down and murdered Lyrl's mother Stealth in the jungles of Voorl. It bares repeating that Vril Dox is not a people person.
The ship jumps to hyper-drive shortly before Lyrl completely deactivates the force field. Clocking in at three hours earlier than his father expected him, it's clear that the team got out of Voorl just in time. Even though doing so meant that they had to warp blind and leave behind their teammate Wildstar to fend for herself against the Vanguard and Black Lantern Stealth. As one of the galaxy's greatest scouts however, if she survives, she's sure to find her way back. Just then, a massive energy spike ahead causes Vril to call for them to pull out of their warp. Hyperdrive receding, they find themselves amongst a squad of Sinestro Corpsmen.
It seems the yellow-light wielding fear masters are on the run from something perhaps far worse than what they had left behind on Voorl! Closing in fast is none other than Black Lantern Harbinger! As the Sinestros seek cover behind the L.E.G.I.O.N. ship, the undead Harbinger attacks
indiscriminately, splitting the ship's hull in half!
Sucked into the vacuum of space, Vril Dox activates his personal force field while the rest of his teammates procure other methods of survival. He looks up to find that Stealth has already tracked their warp-wake and made her way to his location. She waits patiently outside his protective shield waiting for him to drop his defenses so that she can feast on his heart.
But at that very moment, Harbinger murders Narok, one of the Sinestros. His ring, sensing his demise, immediately goes to seek out a new sentient life form capable of instilling great fear. As it turns out, it's journey is a short one.
Vril Dox - Welcome to the Sinestro Corps.
