Nightwing took Barbara the gun that shot her father. She tracked it down to the officers that were in on a weapons sting - the gun was never logged as evidence.
One of the cops was a new (post NML) recruit; a little digging revealed that he was arrested once by James Gordon, Chicago PD.
Alfred chastised Batman for not doing anything - the Dark Knight had been standing beside Gordon's bed, not helping in the investigation. Alfred got fed up with Bruce and again resigned his employ.
Barbara was taken to the hospital when she heard her father was conscious. Nightwing delivered the gun to Bullock and gave him the run-down.
