PLOT:
Nightwing and Batman arrive to find Huntress in bad shape. The only words she is able to form re to warn Batman that Joker had been after the children inside the shelter. Huntress looked up at the Dark Knight and asked him if he was proud. Batman told her she did a good job. Nightwing rushes her to Dr. Thompkins' clinic.

The Batsquad met again at the GCPD headquarters where Joker is waiting for them, taunting them. Joker has 70 pounds of Semtex and 36 children. The team split up to follow leads across Gotham, each turning out to be thinly veiled traps. Azrael finds the entire Christmas tree at Camp Lex adorned with baby dolls filled with explosives. As the tree becomes a gigantic ball of flames it becomes more than apparent that Joker was behind not only the child-napping but also the stolen dolls from earlier.

Batman follows who he believes to be Joker to a construction site. It turns out to be Harley Quinn dressed up as a Joker decoy. Batman forces her to tell him where the children are. She confesses that Joker never left the GCPD building. He has the children stashed there. Oracle immediately sends out a radio message to the team.

The only person in the area is Sarah Essen-Gordon. She finds Joker and the children. Joker tosses a baby up in the air and shoots Sarah as she tries to save the child. The child is safe but Sarah Essen-Gordon is dead. The Joker walks outside and turns himself in.

When the news reaches Gordon that the Joker has taken another loved one, he pulls his gun on the Joker. Batman says that he won't stop him. After an intense moment of consideration, Joker wonders aloud about whether or not Gordon had another child (presumably so he could cripple or kill that one as well). Gordon screams and opts for shooting out Joker's kneecap instead of killing him.

The clown prince falls to the ground crying that he might never walk again. When he realizes that he is in the same position as Gordon's daughter Barbara once was when she was shot in the spine he bursts out laughing.

Gordon orders the clown arrested and breaks down in Batman's arms.
