When Batman finds out that Scarface Nolan has had plastic surgery, he disguises himself in order to find the doctor who did the operation. Batman is taken to Travers, but his cover is blown. Robin arrives in time to prevent Batman's death, but the Caped Crusader is wounded while protecting Steve from a bullet.
Steve operates on Batman and saves his life. The criminal doctor then turns himself in, confessing to his deeds. He explains that Joe had threatened to kill his fiancee if Steve didn't cooperate. Steve got even though by making Joe look like Scarface Nolan, so that police would find him. Steve is acquitted thanks to Batman's testimony.
