Mine owner Julius Reed refuses to install safety devices in his mine. When a cave-in occurs, Batman and Robin assist in the rescue efforts. The miners and the Dynamic Duo try to convince Reed to install new safety equipment. He stubbornly refuses, until they trap him in the mine. After experiencing the mine firsthand, Reed decides to install the new equipment and retire, leaving control of the mine to his son.
