PLOT:
Rip Hunter has one more mission for Booster Gold before they save Blue Beetle from being killed. Rip tells him that Batgirl was never supposed to be shot by the Joker and left paralyzed. This is the last time distortion caused by Rip's former student gone bad, Rex Hunter, real name Jason. Rip plans on interrogating Rex to find out who he is working for.

Three months in the past a future version of Blue Beetle interrupts Jaime Reyes at a wrestling match and takes him away in a flash of light, telling him he is needed.

Rip begins the interrogation of Rex a.k.a. Jason but before he gets too far Jason's body begins spiking with chronal energy and then disappears out of existence. Elsewhere, in the past, Ultra-Humanite, Per Degaton and Despero are standing over a crib with the name Jason above it and they kill the baby. They have killed Rex Hunter in the past and wiped him out of existence so he couldn't tell Rip who he was working for.

Booster travels back in time to the night Batgirl was shot but fails in his attempt to stop the shooting. Rip is forced to return Booster to their HQ before Booster himself is killed by the Joker. When Booster has recovered from the beating he suffered at the hands of the Joker he travels back to try again. He fails at this attempt also and the next two times he tries as well. Rip finally tells him that he can never stop the Joker from shooting Batgirl because it was supposed to happen. It had nothing to do with Rex Hunter. This was Rip's way of convincing Booster that history can't be changed so there is no way they can save Ted Kord.

This angers Booster and he tells Rip he is leaving but before he can three different versions of Blue Beetle appear and tell Booster that Ted Kord can and must be saved. They ask Booster to join them in their mission. The three versions of Blue Beetle are Dan Garrett, Jaime Reyes and the future Blue Beetle.
