PLOT:
Nightwing confronts the imposter threatening to besmirch the good name of Batman by murdering criminals across Gotham whilst wearing the symbol of the Bat. Opting to flee instead of
battle Nightwing and Damian head on, the armored Batman makes his way through the run down factory while the two heroes give chase. No longer content to fight crime using the non-lethal approach of the first Batman, this
new armor-plated Batman plans to match the accelerating crime rates with his own brand of tougher justice. Based upon the information he reveals during their confrontation,
Dick is able to conclude that the man behind the guns and ammo Bat-Suit is none other than Jason Todd. Feeling cornered as the Blackhawk jet appears overhead, Jason Todd fires a bullet into Damian Wayne's chest, knowing that
Dick and the others will give up the chase in order to save Damian's life.
His assumption proving correct, Jason Todd makes his way back to his makeshift Batcave within the collapsed subway tunnels of post-Earthquake Gotham. To his surprise however he finds Tim Drake and Catwoman waiting for him there. Having followed Tim down to Jason's
hidden Bat-cave after spotting the Boy Wonder gliding across rooftops in his father's Bat-suit, Catwoman is able to save Tim from a few of Jason Todd's boobytraps but is quickly taken out of commission by a cheapshot from behind by Todd. The two young men do battle as they had before,
trading blow for blow before Jason Todd is able to score the strategic upper hand leading Tim into a disorienting trap where he gets in several cheap blows. Grabbing a nearby crowbar, Tim Drake begins wailing on his predecessor before realizing that Todd had somehow managed to stab him in the chest
with a razor sharp batarang during the tussle. As Tim Drake falls to the ground slowly bleeding out, a battered and bloody Jason Todd makes his way back above ground to find and kill the last and first of Bruce's sons.
Back at the Bat-Cave Dick already has his hands full. With Damian in traction and Tim gone missing he stands contemplating whether or not he should finally don the cape and cowl - if for no other reason than to
stand up to anyone else who would threaten to disgrace Bruce's legacy. Peeling off his blood soaked rubber gloves after saving Damian's life, Alfred points out that
no one could ever become Bruce Wayne but the city is undeniably in need of someone who represents what
Bruce once stood for. And of all the potential candidates, none have the mettle that Dick Grayson possesses. Convinced, Dick goes to retrieve the Bat-suit when he finds Tim's note stating his intentions to go after Todd.
Meanwhile the criminal underground of Gotham continues to feel the affects of Black Mask's re-introduction. Two-Face, believing Penguin is the one behind the Arkham bus
hijacking and stealing his arms, sets out to strike revenge. Penguin, knowing that Two-Face will think it's him, moves to strike first. The only person who does seem to know of
Black Mask's stake in the Gotham criminal game is Jason Todd whose methods of handling things are, as usual, only
exacerbating the problem.
All the while the true instigator, Black Mask continues his game of criminal misdirection by sending Jane Doe to deliver a message to Gordon from Two-Face. His plan to see all of Gotham ablaze nearing fruition,
Black Mask then dispatches Firefly and Adam Bomb to do what they do best and decimate the GCPD headquarters.
There, Gordon is finding that the legal system is incapable of putting a stop to the destruction raging outside. With
insufficient evidence of Penguin's culpability in this recent rash
of violence, the Gotham DA refuses to press charges. As the new DA turns to leave he gets two bullets to the chest from Jane Doe who, having murdered and skinned the face of one of the officers outside,
promptly puts a few more rounds into Gordon. No stranger to being shot at, Gordon was prepared, wearing a bullet proof vest underneath his work attire. Even so, Jane Doe warns that next time,
he might not be so lucky.
