From him, he learned about scientific experiments on sleep deprivation and how it could be used to create an easy to control zombie. Batman located the killer's "handler," who not only created the killer, but controlled her as well. When he arrived, the handler - Remmy - took the killer - Sleeper - out after she attacked him. A government agent arrived and assassinated Remmy (who was also in on the government plot). Batman took down the killer and left him for Gordon. Sleeper survived but was comatose.
