Action Figures & Dolls - Dolls - Mego
When thinking of the first toy companies to take the initiative in creating comic boook action figures, one Mego Corp. usually comes to mind. It was one of the only corporations to gain the rights to produce both DC and Marvel Comics character toys at once, creating, among others, the popular toyline The World's Greatest Super-Heroes.
Compared with today's standard figure, The World's Greatest Super-Heroes may seem a bit primitive, often sporting oversized gloves soon to be nicknamed "oven mitts", and other unflattering apparel. But being one of the first of its kind, an important and respectful series in the history of toylines.
For a time, Mego toys could be spotted on shelves everywhere, many of which Batman figures, vehicles, and playsets. This was mainly due to wide variety, affordable prices, and toys being repackaged in several differently styled cases. But as the company shut down, Mego dolls became the saut after collectibles they are today. And their classic signature style has been imitated in several toylines to date, in attempt to pick up where The World's Greatest Super-Heroes left off.
