Batmobile
Batman Begins Series 1: Mattel, 2005 SKU# H1387
I must start out that when I first saw pictures of the real Batmobile online I was disappointed. I (as well as a lot of others) thought it looked ugly and not something Batman would drive. Well now that time has passed and I’ve seen more and better pictures and now have seen it in three dimensions, I’m still not thrilled with it but it has grown on me.
The Batmobile has also been given some wear markings. Silver streaks are lightly brushed all over the car on the nose, fenders, roof and rear wings. < There are three Red Buttons on top just behind the drivers compartment. Press the Left Button and a pair of Lasers light up on the nose. Press the middle button and Green headlights come on and the sides pop open and Missile Launcher snap up and up into position. Press the Right Button and the Afterburner lights up.
There is a canopy that flips open to so Batman can get in. The Windows in front are clear, but the sides ones are glossed over. Inside there is a lot of detail. No decals and no seat belt like the previous Mattel Batmobiles. The steering yoke flips up into place. The tires are hollow soft rubber, which may be a first for a Batmobile of this size.
SPECS:
13” Long, 8 1/8” Wide, 4 3/4” Tall. Electronic sounds and lights, two Missiles.
PROS:
It’s loaded with play value and most Batman figures will fit snugly in the small but detailed driver compartment. The buttons on top are easy to use and the car is very engineered very well.
CONS:
It’s smaller that I would have liked. It is the same scale as The Batman figures and while it is more detailed and better looking, I wish Mattel had made it the same scale as the larger comic series figures. Ball jointed shoulders and articulation at the wrists or gloves would have been nice too.
OVERALL:
This is the fourth Batmobile Mattel has produced and it certainly is one of the best ones ever made. It has a movie accurate look (except for the missile popping out of the side). Battle Gear Batman fit in the driver’s compartment but just barely. His wide stance makes it hard to get his hips in the seat and his ears go right to the roof.
This is a must have even if you’re just an average collector. It really is a cool car and a great piece to add to any collection.
