The Riddler
The Batman, Mattel, 2006 SKU# J5079

Riddle me this, riddle me that, what do you get when you cross Marilyn Manson with Edward Nygma? You get this new vision of The Riddler on the The Batman TV series, who debuted in ?Riddled? during Season Two. This way too thin, way too Goth look is a bit disturbing. Little remains of previous Riddler designs except for the green color and the question mark on his shirt.

I have yet to see The Riddler on the show yet, so I?ll reserve final judgment until then. However, I have to say I hate this design. The Riddler was always a clever and well-dressed villain with a style all his own. I don?t know how clever this new Riddler is, but he certainly doesn?t have the fashion sense his predecessors did.

SPECS:
The figure stands 5 3/8 inches tall and has 5 points of articulation (head, shoulders, hips) and a large spring loaded Question Mark weapon that will snap onto either arm.

PROS:
It?s The Riddler and villains are always a bit more sought after.

CONS:
The articulation is very limited. The head does not turn very much due to the hair, and on my figure it was quite loose. Why does only his right ear show? Why is the T-crotch so flat and squared off just below the beltline? Why is the butt so flat and the clothing line in back seems to be reversed from the way it should be. The sculpting should have been better.

OVERALL:
I accepted Catwoman/Selina Kyle figures with limited articulation because they were female and had to look a certain way. The Riddler needs better than 5 points of articulation especially considering the other The Batman villains that are out there. The look is a bit off especially the mouth, which does not have the detail around it I?ve seen in screen shots. The hardcore Batman fans will want one, but most collectors will probably pass on this one.

Then LoG was wrong again. :bigeek: Because that's where I saw it.

I was looking at a few different Batman sites for more information. I know, I know I should have stayed on BYTB, but when you work at a Steakhouse, sometimes you want a Hamburger now and then.

i like this Riddler. He fits in The Batman world as far as design.
LoG does have Riddled listed as his first appearance. Lets not start a war now. |

No, I don?t want another war with LoG either, I was just poking a little harmless fun is all. I recall that LoG posted a jab at Toonzone when they posted an episode mistake once. If you check the link I posted above you?ll see it still says?
?Season Two: Riddled (1st appearance) , Night & the City?
? under The Riddler Bio.
Like Beyond said, ?Mistakes happen.?
I should have double-checked when I was doing the review. I have since updated it. Another thing LoG says is that?
?*the lines around his mouth are actually tattoos - courtesy of Jeff Matsuda on the LoG forum.?
I could not find that on Jeff Matsuda?s Web Site and I don?t know what the tattoos are of. I have not seen the episode that Riddler was in, and won?t until it gets to DVD. I do know that the figure is missing them for some reason.

I saw this at Wal-Mart the other night, didn't pick him up though. I'm thinking about buying the Joker figure from this line, since that was the only other villain I saw there.
I wonder why they had the EXP line but not the DC Super Heroes line.

The new Riddler is great and for the man who said he had no class then what about the horrid spandex outfit from his early days.
Robert Enguld does the best voice work on the character EVER!!!
For once I was scared of The Riddler and I'm excited : ???::
Light a man a fire and you'll keep him warm a night... light him on fire and he'll be warm the rest of his life!!!

Nice review Flabat. You do a great job with the images here.
No wars are a comin'..no one needs to worry about that...we all threw up the peace flags long ago.
I do wanna clarify..I think I'm missing something....we have, and have had, Riddled listed as his first appearance. by saying Riddled (1st appearance), Night and the City...that is saying Riddled is the first appearance.......am I missing something (that wouldn't be shocking if I were, lol)

Sounds about right. I think I've only seen "Riddled". It wasn't bad, and The Riddler was quite creepy. As strange as the design is, I agree that it seems to fit The Batman.
I could tell this figure was a bit squarish as far as sculpt is concerned, but didn't know he was that bad. This is yet another figure I have, but haven't opened yet. The upstairs rooms I use to display my figures are a mess (having to install new windows and things). I have tons of new figures waiting to be opened and displayed. Hopefully I'll get things restored soon and have an enchanting display once again. :shy:
And welcome back, Mr. McNabb.

Thank you Matt. I still do the reviews the way you wanted, but I?ve tweaked them a bit over time. After all I started doing them on LoG long ago. However, I stopped using my kids Batman Bedsheet spread out in the foyer for a Backdrop. LOL

(Richman?s R/C Batmobile with Zipline Batman on my kids Bedsheet)
After I re-read the LoG page above I see that Matt is correct. I must have read it wrong in the first place. It is after all, late at night after a long day at work when I?m on the boards so I must have made the mistake when I was gathering my information and I apologize to Matt and LoG for my blunder. I?m glad to see there is no more hard feelings between the boards. Welcome back to BYTB Matt, say high to Andy for me as his e-mail changed and came back returned on me.
So, Matt what does Jeff say the tattoos (or are they just solid, like makeup) around the lips are of? I only saw the reference to the post on LoG, not the actual post.

Hey! Don't mock the bedsheets backdrop Cully...thats still my primary mode of operation! lol
Its no worries about the episode thing..I just thought I was going nuts..its VERY late when I'm online, after all, as well...so I wanted to be sure!
Jeff told me that the two lines that come down from his mouth on either side were indeed a tattoo. I don't remember if it was via email, phone or a post..I'll look at the board and see if I can find a post about it....but I am positive of the info, either way. I thought it was a pretty hardcore move for a character like the Riddler..but then, thats what I appreciate most about this "new look"...its not afraid to toughen up some of the weaker links.
I'll be sure to tell Andy hi for you!

Thank you for the kind welcome Caleson.
You know, I have some pics of the unpainted sculpt of this figure, by the Horsemen, around somewhere if you guys want to see 'em..I can try to dig them up later this week.
