Just wanted to let you guys know something, since it hasn't been posted here yet. According to Action-Figure.com, they stated that there is going to be a Superman Returns 2 pack call "The House Of El", which features Brendan Routh as Kal-El and Marlon Brando as Jor-El for the 5"/5.5" line. The article stated that they knew about this 2 pack back during the New York Toy Fair 2006 when someone at Mattel accidently mentioned about it, and where told not to tell anyone for a while. Recently, an e-bay bidder has posted this 2 pack up. The 2 pack both has both characters in the Toys R Us Exclusive Silver Space Suit Superman figure(Meaning they both use the same scuplt. Man, didn't know Brando had the same body type as Routh), and they both wear silver cloth robes. While the Routh head sculpt is the same as pretty much all the approx 5" Superman Returns toys(Meaning it doesn't even look like him), the Brando as Jor-El head scuplt is pretty much spot on. I think this 2 pack is in reference to a scene in Superman Returns, which may or may not have been cut from the final film. Here are 2 links for you. The 1st one here is a link to Action-Figure.com about the 2 pack:

And here's the link to the ebay bidder:

At the moment, it is unknown how this 2 pack will be release, since it appears that it is an International Exclusive at the moment. It is unknown if it will be coming to North America, and if it does, is it going to be an exclusive for the SDCC 2006, a store exclusive(I stated in a recent post that according to a recent issue of ToyFare Magazine, they stated that there will be some Exclusive Superman Returns toys coming out from Toys R Us. However, past history seem to imply that Mattel really likes Target for their DC Comics related exclusives, especially for 2 packs), mass retail, or a (Gasp) Wizard Universe exclusive(Considering what happened to the Collectors Edition Batman Begins figure because of the over flowing pegs of Batman Begins toys that just had Batman, and how the Superman Returns toys are kind of doing the same thing with Superman at the moment,I wouldn't be surprised), or what.
This 2 pack is the kind of thing that would get me excited for the Superman Returns toys. I've been so-so with the toys I've seen, and the only ones that even look good or are considered cool to me are the 2 versions of Lex, maybe the henchman, Toys R Us Exclusive Space Suit Kal-El, Re-enterty Superman(I don't know the exact name, but it's the 1 where he has flame like colours on him to repersent him re-entering the Earth's atmosphere) and the Clark To Superman(To a degree. I still want to see if there is going to be doing a 2nd version of this toy, maybe this time with a removable cape, and more of a business suit than just a dress suit and pants. Maybe even use the robes in this 2 pack, but coloured in Blue/Black to repersent a coat and modified so tha it looks like a suit underneath the coat or shorten the robe so that it is a dress coat, and have it come with a matching pants. For this, would perfer blue). All the rest are either so-so, could of been better, have cool accessoires but not as cool figures, or are just pure crap. Some of these in my opinon include Bullet Proof Superman(Come on Mattel, you need to turn the dial on his chest and then press the button for the bullet holes to light up? Sheesh, you guys took a simple "Press button to activate feature" and made it dumb in that you have to turn a dial that isn't needed and interfers with the sculpt. Cool blaster though that can be used by Lex or his henchman), flying sound effect Superman(Not entirely bad), roll on the ground to reperesent flying Superman(Forgot the name, but pure crap), X-Ray Superman(The Safe and Kryponite bomb is the only really good thing), Superbreath Superman(Crappy and doesn't even work properly accoriding to some reviews. The only good thing is maybe a different head sculpt for the blowing) and of course more that I don't even remember or haven't seen yet but their accessories are mostly pretty good. I sorry, but while it's alright for a toyline to aimed for Kids, they should get good toys, not toys that are crappy(Heck, Power Rangers toys are even better than Superman Returns in my opinion). This is especially true for a line like Superman that's cross-generational(Interest different age groups) where older people maybe interested in the line as well.
It's unknown if they will be doing anymore 2 packs in this fashion(Clark To Superman or just Clark Kent and Lois Lane anyone), and it would be a real shame if they didn't do this. Matter of fact, if the whole Superman Returns line had a bunch of two packs to try and get other chracters, I probably wouldn't mine, so long as I could get some other characters besides Superman. But it seems Mattel is sort of tight lipped about it. Heck, we don't even know if there are going to be chase variants for either Lex figures or his henchman(similiar to all the villians in Batman Begins), and I'm still hoping that Mattel can at least give us a Superman figure in more "traditioanl comic book" shade colours(They did it with Batman Begins last year. I'm still hoping for a red on a Superman Returns figure that isn't too dark. Maybe do this with the 2nd version of Clark To Superman if they are doing 1). Sorry for the little rant people, but need to get that off my chest. Just hope this 2 pack is going to be at least a Toys R Us exclusive and that it will be easy to find, along with any future 2 packs. |

Those are pretty cool. It would be nice if they would at least put out the Jor-El figure. TO my knowledge that would be the first Jor-El figure ever, and probably the first one of Brando.
I'd buy one if I found it.

I'm really surprised at that. The Batman Begins line didn't have any figures the slightest bit un-kid friendly. More than likely, this will be either a European exclusive or convention exclusive. Or both.

This is one of the few items of the figure line I'll want, along with Hyperposable Superman, 32" Superman, and that new 3-pack.

Since it?s using the same body as the Toys R Us exclusive Superman, I?d think it was a TRU Exclusive too. Too bad Mattel?s Quality Control is so freaking bad on these figures. The Silver over spray on the neck is horrible and unacceptable. There?s no Blue over spray on the other figures so why screw up these.
Still I think this is the first Jor-El figure and first Brando as Jor-El too. Jor-El wore a glowing White Robe in Superman so why not do this figure the way he appeared in the first movie?

1st off everyone, sorry for the long post. I guess I was trying to get some stuff about the Superman Returns toys off my chest. I guess I'll try and remember to keep rants and toy news separate in future postings.
Next, for FlaBat, I just want to point out that I don't think the silver paint on the neck is a "Quality Control" issue because I think it's actually suppose to be there. From the pictures I've seen of the silver suit that Superman wears for a short time, it appears that the suit actually goes up to the neck and covers part of or the entire neck. Meanwhile, the regular "Returns Suit" doesn't cover the neck. That is why it appears the regular figures don't have blue paint on their necks, while the silver figures have silver paint on the necks. You can verfiy that yourself when you see the movie. You could still say though that Mattel could of done a very small slight rescupt on the neck area so that it didn't look like an typical Mattel Quality Control error if you still wish. Also, in the 1st Superman movie, Jor-El also whore a black robe with either a silver or white "S" sheild as well(When he was heading the trial of Genreal Zodd and his 2 soliders), but he most of the time wore a white robe in the movie. Just thought I'd add that in. |

The only problem with this set is that I have no interest in a 'Kal-El' figure. The only reason I'd want that figure would be because you could take off the coat so that he looks like he's wearing the space suit from the deleted scenes, but I'm not sure if you can.
