It takes a few cues from Bruce Timm, resembling the Batwoman costume from Mystery of the Batwoman, and the Batman Beyond costume quite a lot. I like it. Also reminds me of the Alicia Silverstone Batgirl costume, but despite that I do like it a lot.

If I remember right, they used and Alex Ross design that mixed in elements from the Barbara Gordon Batgirl and the original Batwoman. Ross and Timm tend to be influenced by the same eras, so it would be reasonable to think that there is some of his designs in the suit.
Batwoman is supposed to make her debut in 52 Week 11 which is supposed to come out next month.

I'm not quite up to the One Year Later issue of Detective Comics (about five issues of Batman left to read too), and I'm sure there's stuff I don't know that you guys do, but it was a little wierd to see her in Infinite Crisis when she hasn't really made her official debut. Why would she be charging out with a group of superheroes when we haven't even seen her introduce herself?

To get those few people that were leary of picking up 52 decide to get it. I don't think that hhat page isn't really part of a story. It was more of an ad for 52.
For those who haven't picked it up yet, Batwoman has now appeared (in costume) as a brief shot at the end of 52 Week #9! |

Batwoman won't be following Batman around, she's a seperate crime fighter, like Nightwing. And since when is the Batman a loner? There's been like 5 Robins, 3 Batgirls, Azrael, Huntress, Alfred, another Batwoman before this, and even a couple of dogs for christ's sake, and they've all been there from VERY EARLY DAYS.

They made Batwoman a lesbian to make her more interesting and give the writers a new avenue to explore. Most of the Superheroes are straight, good-looking, and almost perfect and that gets boring after wile. I like to see some more realism and adding somebody like this Batwoman should make it so. At least let her get out there and see what happens and what she will be like BEFORE you pass judgement.

I have no issue or problem with lesbian comic book characters.
I DO however have a problem with butchering an existing character (even if she was erased by the first Crisis). Why not create a new Batwoman? Why bastardize Kathy Kane into being a lesbian? This is just as bad as changing someone's race in the name of diversity.
Non-heterosexual characters are acceptable. Non-white characters are awesome (Blade!!!). But for !@#$'s sake, when will these idiots stop butchering classic characters just to be politically correct??? Or is it the money to made from the controversy that motivates them??? Whatever it is, please stop!!!
DC needs to create some ORIGINAL lesbian and non-white heroes.

Meh, Batwoman was little more than a PR move in the first place (to get more girls to read comics and/or as a romantic interest for Batman, take your pick), so rewriting her personal life doesn't bother me. So far I've been enjoying the story in 52. |

That is an interesting thing. Most theories I have read point to Batwoman's creation to be a publicity move to bring in girl readers and to assure parents that Batman and Robin are not gay.
Now it could be argued that Batwoman's return was to show a balance in the DCU between straight and gay, but as a publicity stunt to brin gin more readers. DC is obviously trying to catch major media attention.
Why else would the New York Times debut Batwoman and not somewhere like Newsarama, Comic Book Resources, or Wizard? It worked though. It seemed like a full week where I saw a lot of news about Batwomsn.
There really hasn't been too much done with her. So far it has been pretty good. Kate doesn't seem to be able to maintain a good duality in her identity sinc eit didn't seem to take Montoya long to figure out she is Batwoman.

Montoya had a bit of an advantage, though - most people would have no trouble identifying a significant other, especially considering how much she's been thinking about Kathy lately. It's hard to tell whether Question recognized her or not, but he's at a distinct advantage again (both having recently met her and being an Authentic Wacko).
You're right - not so good for the first time out, though. Fortunately there seem to be a lot of redheads in Gotham to help hide her identity from the general public. |

and the gay characters i dont care about them, but just dont screw up the character like montoya, i mean lately for DC everything it was killing or putting gay characters and destroy them. Why cant they just make from no where another character like Holly(altough she appeared on YO)
i still dont forigive DC for killing superboy and for paralzed babs.
And for me that Batwoman i would like to see her on OYL

Barbara was paralyzed before most of the people on this board started reading comics (before a chunk of them were even born). I personally think that it was a pretty good move because it is a rare thing that a paralzed character is that well known, and stays that way for so long. I am not big on the means of it because it was a rough story to read, but it did a lot for her as a character. She embodies what they should do with Batwoman being gay. Don't make the character solely focused on the difference from the status qup, make it just another trait that gives the character more appeal.
Superboy was not written well until the recent Teen Titans series. He really was not that entertaining before then, so I am not all that upset about his loss. He was not characterized well at all for the majority of his appearances.

Throughout all of this controversy, I am surprised no one has picked up on the irony of Kathy Kane/Batwoman!
She was created in 1956 as a female interest for Batman, and as a way to show that Batman was no homosexual! Because of the crackdown in 1954, Catwoman was out of the picture, so Batwoman had to fill in the role of love interest. I find it amazing that this character, who was designed to basically combat homosexuality 50 years ago is now a gay character. Holy irony indeed!
As for Batwoman herself, I have no problem with her, so long as she doesn't step on Catwoman!

I don't understand what the big deal is about her being gay, who cares?! This is 2006 for christ's sake. For those small-minded backward-thinking bigot-type people hating & whinning about this, grow-up!
