As I have said before, I don't live near a comic book store, so I generally read the collections and graphic novels. Well, I have recently gotten the "Red Hood" 2 volume series and things are QUITE different from what I remember.

So, since the beginning of the gang-war stuff, WHAT has happened?

I know Tim quit, Spoiler became Robin, died, and Tim came back (don't know why).
Can I have more detail?
What happened to Bludhaven?
What happened between Oracle and Batman?
Do Oracle and Nightwing still have anything "going on?"
Does the "Hush" series have relevance to this, as I haven't yet read it?

I feel SO "out of the loop" on what has happened in Batman-land . . .

HELP!

(I have been looking back at BTAS, Batman 1966, the 90s Batman films, and The Batman recently. I just haven't paid much attention to anything in the main continuity, as I haven't been able to get continuous issues to follow plotlines.)

I've not been reading either, but I recall hearing Bludhaven was blown up during Infinite Crisis and I don't belive Hush has anything to do with anything, but I have read it and say it's deffinitly worth reading anyway.

I don't know if Dick andf Babs still have anything going, I heard they nearly got engauged before one year later, but I don't know if it panned out.

I'll do my best to bring you up to speed and link to some collections where you can read the stories yourself if you want.

I know Tim quit, Spoiler became Robin, died, and Tim came back (don't know why).

I actually can't exactly remember why Robin came back. I think that it was because of Stephanie's death during War Games (the gang war). After Spoiler and Tim's dad died, Tim relocated to Bludhaven for a little while, but is now back in Gotham. After One Year Later he changed his costume and was wanted for murder for a little while, but that has all been cleared up. This week is an excellent jumping on point for the Robin title with issue #170 because Chuck Dixon is back writing it and Spoiler may be back. As far as some reading for this stuff you might check out Robin: To Kill a Bird and Robin: Wanted.

What happened to Bludhaven?

The Society of Supervillains dropped Chemo on Bludhaven in Infinite Crisis. Somewhere around issue 5, I think. Since then, the Atomic Knights have been running things as seen in Crisis Aftermath: Battle for Bludhaven and a few issues of Countdown. Captain Atom returned there and became Monarch. He apparently is planning to remake the Multiverse in his image by destroying the Monitors. A couple of members of the Legion of Superhoeroes are in Bludhaven now trying to cure an OMAC derived virus. They haven't turned up in Countdown for a month though.

What happened between Oracle and Batman?

I haven't read Birds of Prey for a while, but I think that things are largely patched up between them, but Oracle is not operating out of Gotham anymore. Maybe someone else on the boards is picking up Birds.

Do Oracle and Nightwing still have anything "going on?"

No, Nightwing proposed just before he went to fight in the Infinite Crisis. Then after the One Year Later jump they were no longer engaged. You can find the details of the gap in Nightwing Annual #2.

Does the "Hush" series have relevance to this, as I haven't yet read it?

The Hush story only really had two things that have survived the past couple of years of continuity revamps. Skip the next paragraph if you plan to read the story because it is a pretty good mystery story. Highlight it to read better.

Hush was introduced in the story. After the Hush story he was in the stories collected in Batman: Hush Returns (clickable link). The Riddler was the mastermind behind the whole thing. He figured out that Batman was Bruce Wayne and orchestrated the whole plot. He lost this knowledge just before One Year Later through some kind of head injury. Batman revealed to Catwoman that he is Bruce Wayne this has (as far as I know) not been taken out. Jason Todd made his first appearance back from the dead towards the end of the story. The details of his return are in Batman Annual #25 (clickable link). He is now appearing in Countdown.

Hopefully this straightens things out somewhat. Let me know if you, or anyone else, has any more questions.

Thanks.

Infinite Crisis and Countdown are the kind of thing I generally ignore.

I like Batman JUST as Batman, in Gotham, with "his" rogues gallery.
The more "supernatural" the story the more I tend to not like it. Likewise, the more "superpowers" that show up, the less I like it.

One of the attractions of the Batman mythos (to me) is that it tries to lock a superhero story into some sense of "reality" with the villains, plots, and rationales/motivations/origins more based on science (OK-> often BAD science) and more realistic than the general "superhero"/mutant characters and stories.
The Batman mythos, generally, pushed the writers to link their stories into a more realistic world, not using "otherworldly" escapes and powers to get out of situations and to frame the plot and move it forward.
Batman is a "detective" and uses technology to overcome. THAT is what makes him interesting.
(off soapbox)

Thanks again.

I guess I'll look into getting the three "Hush" volumes then. (It must be becoming an "elseworld" story now . . .)
