A couple of years ago I saw a Batman animated Batplane MIB in a comic shop only it didn't say "Batplane" on the box instead the box read "Batwing" I asked the clerk at the store what the deal was if it was a custom made box or an import because I'm sure there was no Batplane variant in the original '93 animated line. The clerk couldn't tell me much (he didn't know jack) and the owner wasn't around. the bottom of the box was hidden in view with loose misc. action figures and PVC's so I couldn't see Kenner or funskool printed. I would have bought it but it was ethier buy a possible fake or a second print Batman #608 and 1st print 612 (I think I made the right choice) I went to the shop the next week and it was gone. It could have been possible 1st issue batplane's had "wing" in it's place and later "Plane" was put there in it's place or that "wing" was only used overseas or a one of a kind custom made box.
This is worse than any of riddlers puzzles trying to figure this out on my own. |

It doesn't have Funskool or Kenner on it. So we'll have to do more digging.

It's not a misprint.. look under Batman, there is I believe Spanish (never was good at reading or saying it)
Here's a couple more vehicles:

Cale or Flabat might now more about these.. They may be Funskool, but I don't think so. the Nightsphare says Kenner.

I've been digging for about 5 years now to find out more I've searched the internet and asked fellow collectors at comic shops and the most I've ever gotten from anyone is that pic now that I know it was released overseas as "Batwing" I guess my next question is if it was ever released here in the US.
Thanks beyond for the great scan :p |

What I find strange is that no manufacturer's logo is visible. It doesn't seem to be produced by Kenner or Funskool and obviously wasn't released in America (it doesn't show up in my price guides). I have seen bootlegs with very little modified from the original but no Batman products left quite this genuine. And from my knowledge, such bootlegs are more often released in Mexico, South America, or an Eastern nation rather than those under the European languages I mentioned earlier.
I do know of some American Batman products officially manufactured in foriegn countries with slightly different packaging and naming (I'll make a thread about those later), so that's most likely the case. Now it's just a matter of finding out the name of this seemingly European manufacturer.

Back in ?92 I don?t recall multi-lingual card backs or boxes for Batman product like there is now.
My guess is one of two things.
1). It?s a bootleg.
2). It?s a legitimate overseas item.
I doubt it?s a bootleg because the box looks way too nice. While many bootlegs do copy original box art, I?ve not seen one quite to that degree before. It looks like the real deal to me.
Clearly there is other languages on the box and perhaps ?wing? translates better than ?plane? does. Another possibility is that the item was originally going to be called Batwing (that?s what it was in the ?89 film), but it was changed or corrected to Batplane later on after the box was printed.

They seem a bit rare, considering I didn't even know about it until a year ago, so don't feel ashamed. I forgot to add that to our archives, too.
The only other vehicle re-release for B&R was Batman Forever's Triple Action Vehicle Set, which I found a pretty strange choice...

A quick tip, gothamite begins: try and remember to use the url code around URL text, such as your eBay link. It makes it much easier for viewers to access it rather than having to copy & paste. Thanks.

This is my theory on that subject of The triple action set which was the last BF toy released late in the line in 1996.
At this time Kenner was abondoning BF and was already in the process for making the toys for B&R so whatever was left on the assembly lines were put into new packaging for the B&R so Kenner could sell toys as new and not have lost big bucks by just cancelling the piece altogether |
