Killer Croc

Killer Croc
The Batman EXP Wave 1:
Mattel, 2006. Asst J1914, SKU# J1923

The Batman TV series is updating the look of another old foe. Killer Croc is half-man and half-reptile, mostly reptile and first appears in The Batman, Season 2, "Swamped". He’s green and has webbed hands and a tail and looks more reptilian than he did in BTAS or TNBA

He wants to flood Gotham in order to steal and plunder. He flooded the city so the banks would be easier to rob, and like many of the other villains before, was taken down by The Batman. His origin in The Batman is not revealed, just rumors that he may be a genetic military experiment, or a simple circus freak. He comes to Gotham as the new Crime Boss and a he’s powerhouse with his crocodile strength as he chomps and swims his way around the city. This new animated version is voiced by Ron Perlman and speaks with a Cajun accent which is a bit odd and annoying to listen to.

SPECS:
The figure stands 5 1/4 inches tall and has 7 points of articulation (head, shoulders, hips, and tail). The tail wiggles back and forth by way of a dial in the figures back.

PROS:
It has decent sculpting and detail, taking into account it is not aimed at collectors. He’s a crocodile but lacks the scales that other Killer Croc figures have had. I like the ball jointed head the most. It pivots up and down and can twist around for some neat looking poses. The figure is well balanced and stands well for display without any fear that it will fall over.

CONS:
Ball jointed shoulders, elbows and knees should be standard on a figure this big. Mattel’s other Killer Croc figures had wrists, which would have been nice on this figure too. The original Mattel Killer Croc figure also had a rubber tail with a wire that allowed you the bend it, this figure only has a fixed plastic tail. The tail only wiggles about an inch back and forth when you turn the dial. Cute for kids, but Mattel should have checked out Tailwhip Killer Croc from Hasbro’s Batman Knight Force Ninjas line to see what some real tail action looks like.

OVERALL:
The figure has decent playability and is a fair value. This is the first Killer Croc figure I recall not having any pants, only a gray vest. You’ll want one because he’s a villain and thankfully, Mattel has put more of them in The Batman EXP cases of figures. So far most of the figures have been easy enough to find. However, with only 4 different Spray Op (3 of them minor) colors (gray vest, green scar, yellow eyes, white teeth) Mattel could have spent a little more time and money and given this Killer Croc more articulation and detail.
