Selina Kyle
The Batman, Exclusive: Mattel, 2005. SKU# H1323
Mattel’s 2005 Summer comic book convention Catwoman exclusive action figure had nine lives when it came to variants. Specifically, the figure was offered with nine different decos of the lion idol the DC Comics’ feline fatale has her green eyes on absconding with. Naturally, the vac-metallized gold idol proved to be the rarest variant, followed by idols decoed in brown (w/ a yellow mane), jade, fuzzy flocked pink, maroon, black, gray, silver, and a very patriotic red, white, and blue. Unfortunately, Mattel kept no record of the distribution for any of the idol variants, and we can’t assume that all others after the gilded lion were produced in equal numbers. The idols were sold in sealed boxes overlying the window-box packaging, and curiosity killed many a collector dying to see just which idol came with Catty.
SPECS:
The figure stands 5 1/8? inches tall, with the stand. The figure only has 4 points of articulation (neck, shoulders and waist). The figure comes with a Bullwhip, Idol and Stand.
PROS:
It?s Catwoman, and she looks great but the Selina Kyle version looks sadly like a brunette in a leotard rather than the iconic Batman villain that she is.
CONS:
There is little or no articulation and very limited poseability. She has the standard left hand on hip pose that so many other female action figures have had before. While she comes with a Bullwhip, nether hand can grip it. It can be ?placed? in the right hand but it is not held in place. Speaking of right hands, why does the Right Hand have the light gray palm, but the Left one does not? The figure comes with a Stand and needs it to stand up, as the feet are two small to support the figure. I still do not understand the 9 different versions of the Idol.
OVERALL:
As figures go I was a bit disappointed by this one. While most female figures are not overly articulated I think that could have had a few more points added to add play value to the figure. Granted the SDCC version is considered a ?Collectors? version and not really geared toward play value.
