Action Figures & Dolls - Action Figures - Animated - The Batman - Batwave Interactive - Batmobile Review
Batwave Communicator
The Batman: Mattel, 2004
This is one of the first items released with Batwave, a technology that allows the Batlink Communicator to interact with the The Batman TV show. This hand-held Game Boy type device comes with built in games to play and stories to watch and interact with. It uses VEIL Technology to download data encoded in the TV show. Another Batlink Communicator (does not have the “Batwings”) is included with the Batwave Batmobile.
SPECS:
Overall: 8 7/8” wide (open) 6 ½” (closed) 1 ¾” thick. Main Unit: 3 5/8” h, 2 3/8” w, 1 1/8” d. 2” (diagonal) LCD screen, Belt Clip, Ear Bud. 27 built in sounds and various Batman sound bites.
PROS:
The games, Boxing, Batmobile and Batarang are simple yet challenging. The stories are also quite simple, short and easy to follow (you read the text as it plays scenes). The ability to download new items from the TV show makes this device a little different every week.
CONS:
It does not work with Rear Projection, HD, LCD or Plasma TVs. No speaker you have to use the Ear Bud. While this in not a great inconvenience (especially if Batman is in your backseat while you drive the BatMinivan) I would have liked the option of a built in speaker because I hate using Ear Buds for long periods of time.
OVERALL:
While I like it, I don’t have a TV that works with VEIL so I did not get to see Batwave in action. With all the options this could provide hours of entertainment for younger kids. This one of the cooler Batman toys that I’ve seen and it’s a great present for all the young Batman fans in your family
