Action Figures & Dolls - Action Figures - Animated - The Batman - Batwave Interactive - Batmobile Review
Batwave Batmobile
The Batman: Mattel, 2004
This is the second The Batman item released with Batwave, a technology that allows the Batlink Communicator attached to the top of the Batmobile to interact with the The Batman TV show. This hand-held Game Boy type device comes with built in games to play and stories to watch and interact with. It uses VEIL Technology to download data encoded in the TV show.
This is a new design for the Batmobile, one that pays homage to Batmobiles before it with various design cues throughout the vehicle. The Batmobile is painted in black metal flake, with blue trim and blue lights that light up along the sides.
In Cruise Mode the blue side lights will flash and you will hear tires screech.
In Attack Mode the blue side lights will flash and you will hear tires screech and hear the guns fire and the rear quarter panels will pop out while the Engine flashes with a white light.
In Extreme Mode the blue side lights will flash and you will hear tires screech and you will hear Batman say “Deploy Stabilizer, Deploy Afterburner” to which the Afterburner will flash red lights and pop up and the Stabilizer Wings below the car will pop out.
SPECS:
12 ¾” long, 5 7/8” wide (closed at rear wheels) 8 ¼” (open at rear wheels), 4 ¼” tall (with Communicator). Removable Batlink Communicator, Ear Bud, Missiles, Motorized with flashing Engine, Laser and side lights.
PROS:
The Batmobile needs Batlink Communicator attached for sounds. This Batlink Communicator is similar to the other stand alone one being sold except that it does not have the Batwings to cover the screen, it has a built in speaker which is nice and it has a card edge that allows it to attach to the Batmobile.
The games, Boxing, Batmobile and Batarang are simple yet challenging. The stories are also quite simple, short and easy to follow (you read the text as it plays scenes). The ability to download new items from the TV show makes this device a little different every week.
CONS:
It does not work with Rear Projection, HD, LCD or Plasma TVs.
OVERALL:
This one of the coolest Batmobiles that I’ve ever seen. It’s a bit pricey, but I feel it is worth it. When you consider what the Batlink Communicator costs by itself, the Batmobile is priced inline with others before it.
The two Batlink Communicators while similar are not identical, this one has everything the other one does except the other one will not interact with this Batmobile.
Zip Action Batman will fit in the Batmobile even with the attached launcher on his right hand. Still it’s a snug fit and I’ll wait for a Batman without the launcher to use with this Batmobile.
