Wired columnist John Scott Lewinski writes in his latest blog post how The Dark Knights massive earnings at the theaters this summer has put life back into two other DC universe movies that were on the edge of getting cancelled. The Green Lantern and The Justice League are those films and will be the ones with the weight on their sholders until Superman comes out of the phone booth and Nolan decides on a third Bat Crusade.

Batman has a flaw? Critics think so...
Source: Associated Press
Though "The Dark Knight" has been a bona fide cultural event, boasting rave reviews and boffo box office, it hasn't been immune to criticism. Some have quibbled with its political undercurrents, and others have criticized a muddled theme.
But here's the critique most widely held: Why does Batman talk like the offspring of Clint Eastwood and a grizzly bear?

UPDATED! Morgan Freeman injured in car accident, no serious injuries.
UPDATE: Source: The Clairon-Ledger
Actor Morgan Freeman suffered some broken bones in a car accident Sunday, but will recover, friends said this afternoon.
Freeman, 71, and a passenger, Demaris Meyer, age unknown, were airlifted to a Memphis hospital following a single-car accident around 11:30 pm. Meyer's condition was not immediately available.
Freeman’s business partner, Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, visited with the actor at the hospital today and said Freeman will be fine.
"He's resting quietly and has some fractures. Nothing life-threatening. Nothing permanent," Luckett said. "He's in good spirits, but he's in some pain."
Filmmaker Paul Saltzman said Freeman suffered a broken shoulder and a broken arm and expected recovery time will be six to eight weeks.

Johnny Depp Is Not The Joker.
Recently there as been more than a few quarries about Johnny Depp taking over the role of The Joker. I wanted to write up a quick news blurb to try and help those confused by this.
No one has been cast in any future films. The main reason for this, while it is almost certain that we will get a third Batman film by team Nolan, they have not signed anything yet.
Also, since the director has not signed on yet, then no actors are going to be cast.
I think people might read posts wrong. Alot of us, myself included have stated that if anyone can do the Joker after Heath Ledgers incredible performance, it would be Johnny Depp. He could bring honor to the role, yet make it his own.
In short, Johnny Depp is NOT the Joker...

According to Box Office Mojo The Dark Knight is posed to make $43,800,000 this weekend, besting The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor's $42,450,000. Although The Mummy made more on Friday night, the overall weekend The Dark Knight comes out on top.
This also places The Dark Knight in the #8 on the All Time Domestic Grosses chart.
Currently, The Dark Knight is sitting at $394,887,000. The Dark Knight needs another $8,819,375 to take down Spiderman, but only $5,113,000 to reach 400 Million, breaking another record, the fastest to 400 Million.

SDCC '08 Final Wrapup + Gaiman writing Batman in 2009!
DC Comics hosted their final panel at the San Diego ComicCon today and their big announcement of the weekend certainly did live up to it's billing as a "blockbuster"
At the end of this morning's panel DC Comics revealed that starting January 2009 the main Batman title is going to be helmed by none other than Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert on an arc entitled "Whatever happened to the caped crusader?"
According to Dan DiDio once the Batman RIP arc ends in November, there will be "a two part story looking at what Gotham has become, written by Denny O'Neil." before Gaiman and Kubert step into the title.
This has certainly been a great Comic-Con for Batman news. In summary we've learned the following:
- Kevin Smith will be writing a three part Batman mini-series starring a villain from his Green Arrow run who speaks in sounds. It will be drawn by a yet unnamed mystery artist.
- Jason Todd is set to star in his own miniseries post-RIP
- Also after RIP we will be seeing an arc entitled "Battle for the Cowl"
Head on over to CBR for a full run-down! |

300 Million? Yep! In Ten days even!
The Dark Knight has done it again!
It's estimated that the total for this weekend will be around $75.6 million, first that that means that the Dark knight has had the second biggest weekend ever. It also bring the total up to $314.2 million. Monday The Dark Knight will surpass Iron Man & Indiana Jones: Kingdom of The Crystal Skull to be the biggest movie of the summer.
While The Dark Knight keeps breaking records, the next big one will be, Fastest to 400 Million. Currently Shrek 2 holds that record. It took 43 days to reach the total. Will the Dark Knight break it? No doubt it will, but how long? My vote, two weeks or less!
The next big movie will be The Mummy 3 which will be released next weekend.
